The History of Massage
At some time in our lives most of us will suffer from minor injuries, pain or other discomfort. Our natural reaction is to rub, hold or pat the affected area to ease this discomfort. Massage is probably the earliest form of medicine. It is based on manipulation of the bodies soft tissues (ie muscle), by the hands, to give theraeputic effects and ease aches and pains, and can also form an important part of stress releif and relaxation for those living in todays stressful world.

Massage dates back to the beginning of time and was practiced by the early Chinese, Hindu, Assyrian, Greek and Roman civilisations. It was not really heard of in Europe until the 16th century. It was however, in the early part of the 19th century that Swedish physiologist Dr Peter Henry Ling developed the clear system of massaging we know today as Swedish Massage.
